Mental Health

Mental illnesses are health conditions that affect a person’s health and wellbeing. Many people in Colorado live with a mental illness. In fact, 3 in 10 Coloradans are in need of mental health or substance use disorder care (1.5 million people). Similar to other health conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease, a mental illness can interfere with a person's thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others and daily functioning. Serious mental illnesses include major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and borderline personality disorder. Mental illnesses are treatable and resources are available to assist people living with a mental illness.
