AmeriCorps week is a recruitment and recognition week designed to bring more Americans into service, salute AmeriCorps members and Alumni and thank community partners who make AmeriCorps possible. For 2012, the theme of AmeriCorps week is “AmeriCorps Works.” The focus of the week is to spread the word about AmeriCorps triple bottom line return on investment-for the recipients of service, the people who serve, and the larger community and nation. No one is better at telling the AmeriCorps story than AmeriCorps members, alums and the organizations they serve.
Those with a special interest in AmeriCorps are encouraged to use their creativity and celebrate the week anyway they see fit. For example, members can host informational sessions in their local community about AmeriCorps, or write a letter to the local newspaper about the impact of AmeriCorps, or ask a local official or leader to serve as an “AmeriCorps Member for a Day.”
Since 1994, more than 775,000 AmeriCorps members have given one billion hours of service, mobilizing tens of millions of volunteers, and improving the lives of countless Americans. Whether improving schools, fighting poverty, rebuilding after disasters, providing health services, preserving the environment or supporting veterans and military families, AmeriCorps members are getting things done!
