As part of the U.S. Mint's Fifty State Commemorative Coin Program, Colorado has chosen a design for our state's quarter, to be released on June 14, 2006, on the west steps of the State Capitol.
Here in Colorado, we are blessed with natural beauty and a rich historical heritage. Colorado's commemorative coin is an excellent way to recognize these qualities that make our state unique.
As chair of the Colorado Commemorative Quarter Advisory Commission, I encouraged people from all over the state to submit design ideas. The twelve Colorado Commemorative Quarter Advisory Commissioners spent last summer reviewing more than 1,500
submissions that were received from all over Colorado. They chose five different narratives that were then sent to the U.S. Mint in September. The Mint then turned the narratives over to their artists, who created the actual coin designs.
The five designs were submitted to the Governor, who made the final decision.
