When we remediate tech debt, we all win!

One of our major tech debt remediation projects is removing our IT infrastructure from the leased eFORT Data Center by January 2025. We have made tremendous progress in that work, evident in our reduced footprint. But there’s more!

We track energy usage through kWh (kilowatt hours) expended at the eFORT Data Center. And we have some great news! Our energy consumption has decreased as our footprint at eFORT continues to shrink. November 2023 marked the first time we have used less than 200,000 kWh monthly at eFORT! In December 2023, our energy consumption was even lower at 180,146 kWh. We will continue to save thousands of kWh of electricity each month as we work to move out of eFORT by early 2025. You can monitor our monthly energy consumption via a graph, which can be viewed in detail by clicking this link.

Saving energy is always a good idea. Decreasing our electricity usage reduces air and water pollution and helps the planet. This project (and eliminating technical debt) is a win for all Coloradans!

CDPHE’s Medication Takeback program now accessible on the myColorado app

Coloradans can now access information about the Medication Takeback program on myColorado™, an innovative and first-of-its-kind app that makes it easier for people to engage with state government and its services.

The program aims to help Coloradans properly dispose of unused medication to protect their loved ones and the environment. Proper disposal of medications prevents the potential for accidents and misuse, protecting children and teens from harm. Medications flushed down the toilet or thrown in the trash can contaminate water systems and threaten wildlife.

myColorado is available at the Apple App Store or on Google Play.

The Colorado Sun: We've evolved our hiring practices to discover great tech talent

In an article about finding and training tech talent in Colorado, OIT is highlighted for our recent change to focus on skills over degrees in hiring and our partnership with Activate Work to set up apprenticeships.

“We aren’t able to offer stock options and bonuses and things like that that the private sector can offer,” said Bob Nogueira, OIT’s chief people officer. “But we can offer a culture that is based on service. And that culture, I believe, is really what keeps people here.”
