Athletic training includes the application of principles, methods and procedures of injury prevention, assessment, recognition, treatment disposition, first aid, emergency care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), rehabilitation and reconditioning of the athlete through the use of safe and appropriate physical rehabilitation practices.

Graduates of programs accredited by the National Athletic Trainers Association (N.A.T.A.) may use the title "Qualified Athletic Trainer."
