Local Licensing Authorities

A new law was passed in 2007 (SB07-123 and SB08-224) that requires owners of elevators and escalators (conveyances) to arrange for inspections of their conveyances by a third-party inspector licensed by the Division of Oil and Public Safety, Conveyance Section.  Jurisdictions can be approved by the Division to inspect conveyances if they sign an agreement with the Division to regulate all conveyances in their territory and if their staff inspectors or appointed-inspectors are licensed by the Division.

Elevators must comply with the American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators, Dumb Waiters, Escalators, and moving sidewalks (ANSSCE) (A17 1), published by this Society. There is a cost for this publication.
NOTE:  Local jurisdictions use the Uniform Building and the American National Standard Safety Code along with their own regulations. Individuals should check with local building departments.
