Local Licensing Authorities	Coroners are elected county officials. Coroners must have a high school or GED and pass a criminal background check. $25,000 minimum bond required. A coroner who owns, operates, is employed by, or otherwise has an interest in a funeral establishment shall not direct business to such establishment when performing his duties.

Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment Colorado Coroners Standards and Training Board 4300 Cherry Creek Dr South Denver, CO 80246-1530 (303)692-2700	Beginning in 2003, Coroners must complete training in medical-legal death investigation as specified by the Board. Fees for training to be paid by county government. Some training and certification programs are available through the Colorado Coroners Association.
