Lieutenant Governor's Inaugural Message- Tuesday January 13, 2015
Good morning, and thank you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to continue to serve this great state, the state where I have raised my four wonderful children alongside Claire, my wife of over 32 years. I would not be here without her constant support, her sacrifice, and her independent spirit that motivates me every day.
As I thought about today I looked back about 5 years ago, the day I jumped on my motorcycle and headed to a bar in Pueblo. There, I met an incurable optimist named John Hickenlooper. Over a beer--and I've learned that he conducts many meetings that way--he told me about his love for all of Colorado and his plan to make it a better place where we could all pursue our dreams.
He told me that he couldn't promise that we'd win, but that I would have the chance to visit every corner of the state, every small town and big city, and sit at kitchen tables with Coloradans of every background. He was right and I am richer for that experience. It has been an honor to serve as your Lieutenant Governor - a role that has given me the opportunity to serve and explore this amazing State whose People are as diverse as our landscapes as inspirational as our sunsets.
