Making sure that every child can read is important to Governor Hickenlooper, it’s important to me, but it’s even more important to the future of Colorado.
Colorado’s prosperity and the quality of our future workforce are directly dependent on our ability to ensure that every child receives a top-notch education. And the first step to a good education is learning how to read. That’s why Colorado is spearheading an early childhood literacy movement to make sure that every child in Colorado is a successful reader by the end of third grade.
During the week of October 17, we traveled more than 1,000 miles through 18 cities and met with more than 700 educators, business leaders, community members, nonprofit representatives, families and children. Each of these conversations provided insight to the unique challenges facing our communities, and more importantly, the resolve and dedication people are demonstrating to early reading success.
The Literacy Matters Tour continues through northern Colorado on Monday, November 7 and to the eastern plains on Monday, November 21.
Governor Hickenlooper and I are committed to bringing people together to help inspire this early literacy movement, because we know our commitment to creating the brightest, most prosperous future for Colorado begins with our children.
