Telemedicine

Telemedicine helps connect Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid Program) members to health care providers through live video. It can help you get the care and consultation you need without traveling to visit a provider in another city or area of the state. You can use telemedicine for routine medical care, therapy appointments, speech therapy, pregnancy ultrasounds, and other appointments. Talk to your provider to see if you can use telemedicine for appointments.

All care and services must be Health First Colorado covered benefits. Telemedicine cannot be used for anything Health First Colorado doesn't cover.

Who qualifies for telemedicine services?

All Health First Colorado members qualify, whether they live in rural or urban areas. Providers must have telemedicine equipment.

How does telemedicine work?

  1. From a provider office
You can connect through video with a provider in another office. Both offices must have telemedicine equipment.
  1. From your home or other location like a library
You may be able to use your mobile phone, tablet or desktop computer to connect to a provider. Health First Colorado will not pay for the equipment.

When is telemedicine a good option?

Telemedicine is best for members who need help from a provider who is located far away from the member, and for members with transportation difficulties. Telemedicine should not take the place of seeing a provider in person when medically necessary.

Contact your provider to learn more about how to use telemedicine.
