Now recruiting AmeriCorps members The Governor’s Commission on Community Service serves as a catalyst for the promotion and expansion of community service and volunteerism to all Coloradoans as an effective means to address civic and social issues and improve the overall well being of communities throughout the state, particularly in the areas of literacy and mentoring. Colorado has AmeriCorps state and national programs located throughout the state, as well as the AmeriCorps office along with AmeriCorps VISTA project sites. These programs recruit members for a variety of service projects in several locations around the state. The AmeriCorps commitment is for nine-months to one-year of service (depending on the program). The majority of Colorado AmeriCorps programs are seeking full-time members, however, there are a few part-time and reduced time opportunities available in some programs. AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance or stipend, health coverage, and child care assistance for those who qualify. Full-time members serving 1,700 hours are eligible for an educational award of $4,725 at the end of their term of service. This award can be used for tuition or past educational loans. Half-time members serving 900 hours are eligible for an educational award of $2,362 at the end of their term of service. Each program is responsible for recruiting their own members and each program has its own application process and timeline.
