Renewables
Utility-scale renewable power in Colorado consists of large-scale wind farms, hydro-electric power, concentrated solar power, and pumped hydro storage. There is much potential for expanding the utilization of these sources, as well as geothermal energy. Renewable power provides the advantage of minimal environmental impacts, an abundance of sources, and there is minimal to no ongoing fuel cost .

Renewable Energy Development on State Trust Lands
Pursuant to C.R.S. 36-1-147.5, which states that leasing arrangements on state lands for renewable energy resource development are to be administered by the State Board of Land Commissioners, the Board is actively pursuing renewable energy development on state trust lands. For more information please contact the State Board of Land Commissioners at 303-866-3454 or visit http://trustlands.state.co.us.
Utility Company Request for Proposals
Colorado’s utilities are building out their renewable energy capacity through the public solicitation of bids for purchased power. These solicitations come in the form of request for proposals (RFPs). The chart below indicates the current slate of renewable energy RFPs in Colorado’s utility market.
This chart will be updated on a bi-monthly basis so feel free to check for further developments in the expansion of Colorado’s New Energy Economy. Utilities that would like to have their RFPs listed here should contact Matt Futch at Matt.Futch@state.co.us.
