Ground Source Heat Pumps & Geoexchange

Ground source heat pumps and geoexchange technologies use the relatively constant temperature of the shallow subsurface of the earth (50-60°F) through the seasons. During the winter, heat is drawn from the subsurface into a working fluid in vertical or horizontal shallow ground loop piping. The fluid then transfers its heat to a building heating system. In the summer, the process is reversed, providing cool air for the home. An investigation is under way at the Governor’s mansion to determine the geoexchange opportunities at that location.
