The Governor’s Biofuels Coalition
The Governor's Biofuels Coalition (GBC) represents Colorado organizations, businesses, government agencies, environmental groups and others that are involved in the production, distribution, promotion and usage of biodiesel and ethanol. These entities are working together to overcome market barriers and to raise awareness for existing flex-fuel and diesel vehicle drivers of these alternative fuel options.
The GBC aims to educate Colorado’s almost 300,000 vehicle owners to the benefits and availability of E-85 and biodiesel. Additionally, the GBC wants to maximize the number of installations of E85 and biodiesel pumping facilities within Colorado by furnishing funds that will go directly for equipment. The GBC does not provide funding for ethanol and biodiesel production. Please refer to this website's sections on ethanol and biodiesel for further information about biofuels.
Use of biofuels continues to grow in Colorado. Nearly 100 stations are currently open and selling E85 and/or biodiesel, 75% of which received support from the GBC. In 2007, the stations reporting to the GBC sold 2.614 million gallons of biofuels. From January 1st - June 30th 2008, 3.74 million sold gallons have been reported. That's an increase of 40% in just 6 months.
In addition to the information found in this section, you can also find a biofuels station near you by visiting the U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative & Advanced Fuels website or by downloading a copy of the GBC's station location brochure found below under "Additional GBC Materials & Resources".
Requests for Funding Support from the GBC
As part of the GBC's goal to expand the availability of alternative fuels to consumers in Colorado, the GBC is offering funding to qualifying facilities. The GBC does not provide funding for ethanol and biodiesel production. For more information about funding from the GBC click here.
