Colorado Carbon Fund

The Governor's Energy Office Project C and the associated Colorado Carbon Fund (www.ColoradoCarbonFund.org), comprise a groundbreaking campaign – the first statewide project of its kind – to provide high quality, verifiable carbon offsets for consumers concerned about climate change and further advances Colorado’s New Energy Economy. Consumers can compensate for their own carbon emissions - generated by everyday activities such as driving and home-heating - by helping to fund projects in Colorado that measurably reduce greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere. Donors who offset at least 50% of their vehicle emissions can qualify for a Colorado Project C license plate.

The Governor’s Energy Office created the Colorado Carbon Fund to meet the unique needs of our state and to position us to lead the New Energy Economy. The Colorado Carbon Fund has many benefits.

  • Homegrown: Supports only new offset projects in Colorado.
  • Quality of life: Protects Colorado’s environment and economy.
  • Community: Provides reinvestment funds for environmentally beneficial projects diverse communities in our state.
  • Innovation: Supports new low-carbon technologies.
  • Value: Provides high quality offsets at a competitive price with added promotional benefits.
  • Philanthropy made easy: Tax-deductible donation is a click or call away.

What kind of projects does the Colorado Carbon Fund support?

Donations to the Colorado Carbon Fund help fund new clean energy projects that reduce carbon, with an emphasis on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and community-based initiatives. Examples are:

  • On the farm: Work with farms and to turn farm waste into energy, such as projects that convert methane from cow manure into electricity using biogas technology.
  • In the boiler room: The mountain pine beetle is decimating our lodgepole pines. Those downed trees can replace fossil fuels as an energy source for commercial boilers in schools and businesses.

Program Partnerships

In developing this program, the GEO seeks to partner with:

  • Communities interested in supporting local clean energy and climate mitigation projects
  • Individuals and organizations interested in purchasing offsets
  • Developers and financiers of offset projects
  • Brokers and aggregators of offsets

The Colorado Carbon Fund program is currently accepting carbon offset project ideas. Parties that would like to communicate a project for partnership consideration are invited to submit a program interest form. The Interest Form can be found on the Partnership Opportunites page of this website.
