For Building Occupants
There are a number of things that building occupants can do at state agencies can do to help reach energy efficiency goals.
- Turn off the lights when you leave a room that is no longer in use. Ask your building facility staff to ensure that lights are turned off when the building is not in use.
- Is it possible to turn off a bank of overhead lights near the windows and or use task lighting?
- Limit the use of personal appliances such as radios and clocks. Listen to the radio and view the clock already provided to you on your personal computer.
- Do you have a laptop and a personal computer? Can you perform your work duties with the laptop alone? Laptops use significantly less energy than a personal computer.
- Do you have a desktop printer? Could you use a network printer instead, saving both energy and printer cartridges.
- Do you use a personal fan or space heater at your desk? Talk to the building facilities staff about your personal comfort, or consider moving to another workspace that is better suited for your comfort.
- Are the break and lunch room appliances ENERGY STAR certified? Look for the ENERGY STAR label when purchasing large and small appliances.
- Contact your Greening Government Coordinating Council Representative to discuss your energy-efficiency ideas.
