New Schools

High Performance SchoolColorado is leading the way in the movement to build high performance schools, often called “green” schools. The people and legislature of Colorado believe that all new schools should be built to the highest standards. Our students, faculty and staff deserve schools that are:
  • Healthy
  • Comfortable
  • Energy efficient
  • Reduce operating costs
  • Conserve water and important natural resources
  • Improve student performance and teacher retention

Is your school district planning to build a new school or renovate an old one?
If so, there is important legislation that may affect how you build your new school building:

  • Is your new school facility larger than 5,000 square feet?
  • Will the capital construction budget for new building or major renovation be funded with at least 25% of state funds?

If you answered YES to the above questions, then your new school is subject to the requirements of the High Performance Certification Program (HPCP) established by Senate Bill 07-51.
Learn more about HPCP here.

If you answered NO to any of the above questions, click here to learn how you can build the best, high performance school possible, and how GEO can help.
