The Independent Ethics Commission (“IEC”) is a constitutionally created independent commission and is charged with the implementation of Article XXIX of the Colorado Constitution and Article 24-18.5-101of the Colorado Revised Statutes. The purpose of the IEC is to hear complaints, issue findings and assess penalties in appropriate cases, and also to issue advisory opinions, on ethics issues arising under Article XXIX of the Colorado Constitution and any other standards of conduct and reporting requirements as provided by law. The Governor of Colorado, and Colorado’s Supreme Court, Senate and House of Representatives have each appointed one member of the IEC. The four current members of the IEC must select an individual to be the fifth member. Applications to become the fifth member are now being accepted. IEC members serve without compensation but are reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses incurred in carrying out their duties.

Fremont County Commissioner Larry Lasha has been named as the 5th Member of the Independent Ethics Commission. Mr. Lasha is a political independent and a retired Colorado Springs firefighter.

The Colorado Independent Ethics Commission is in the process of reviewing applications for fifth member to the Independent Ethics Commission.
