Monica Cortez-Sangster heads the Human Resources Unit,  responsible for the administration of the Department's internal personnel functions by providing human resources support and services, including job evaluation, compensation, benefits administration, orientation, recognition, dispute resolution, and training coordination.  Monica is a Colorado native, from Atwood, six miles southwest of  Sterling. She graduated from nearby Merino High School, where she was class valedictorian. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado State University and a Master's in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver.  Monica and her husband Dimitri met in college and have a son and daughter.
