Grant Information

Department of Local Affairs
The Department of Local Affairs, Division of Local Government has published a Local Government Grant and Loan Directory. This directory lists all of the various grants and loans available for various projects and systems. The directory is available at: http://www.dola.state.co.us/Grants.htm. There are a few programs that might be used for funding of local government trunked radio systems. Most of the programs that may apply are under the Public Facility and Public Safety sections.

The possible programs include:

                Community Development Block Grant Loan Fund
                Rural Telecommunications Projects
                Energy & Mineral Impact Assistance Grants and Loans
                Local Government Gaming Impact Grant Program
                Emergency Medical Services Grants
                Community Facility Program
                Local Law Enforcement Block Grants
                Search and Rescue Fund
                Local Victim Assistance & Law Enforcement Grant
                Local Law Enforcement Block Grants
                Law Enforcement Assistance Fund
                State Snowmobile Program

Many of these grant programs require a town or county to be the applicant and indicate a high priority for the radio system funding. Contact the agency and person listed in the directory to obtain additional information about a specific program. It is important to fully explain how the radio systems are a vital part of the operational requirements   that is the primary purpose of the grant program.

Technology Opportunities Program
The Technology Opportunities Program (TOP) located at http://www.ntia.doc.gov/otiahome/top/grants/grants.htm awards communications grants through an annual competition. Please note that TOP was formerly known as the Telecommunications and Information Infrastructure Assistance Program (TIIAP).

Local Fire Departments to Receive $30 Million in Grants
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that over 510 fire departments across the United States will receive more than $30 million in grants  under the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program.

Public Safety Foundation of America

Grant Funds Available for Wireless 9-1-1 Implementations: The Public Safety Foundation of America was established by APCO to receive and distribute funds to assist public safety communications agencies.
