"Motherhood" is always a topic for debate. How many mothers have received advice (solicited or unsolicited) about how to be a good mother? The following article is from the Colorado Department of Health Annual Report for 1879-1880 and was written by Henry K. Palmer, M.D.. In the same Annual Report there is an article entitled, "Ventilation and Clothing" where the author says, "The people of this State are not awake to the sad consequences of poor ventilation." The Colorado State Archives has annual reports from many agencies with fascinating articles such as these. Besides being very entertaining, such documents shed a light on our social memory so that we can have a better understanding of ourselves as human beings.
