The following index was created as part of the 1885 Colorado Census that was conducted on a statewide basis from June 1, 1884 until May 31, 1885 in all counties that existed at the time. The information is on microfilm and records the deaths in the county during this time period that were reported to the census takers. Although the film is not of the best quality for deciphering and extracting names, it has good genealogical information that may be of value to a researcher. The record generally shows the name of the person who died, their age, sex, ethnicity, marital status, where born, father and mother's birth place, occupation, cause of death, month of death, length of residency in the county, name of attending doctor and the name of the nearest town to where the family resided.

An earnest effort was made to transcribe each name correctly.  However, some of the handwritten entries were hard to read, making it difficult to ensure the spelling of a name is accurate. Please check similar or closely spelled names as this may help you in your search. If you find a name on this list and would like a copy of that person's record, please contact us. We will respond to regular mail, e-mail  (please include your postal address in the e-mail), and phone requests. We do have search, handling and copy fees. Please contact us  in order to find out the charges for your request.
