VIRTUAL TOUR of COLORADO STATE HOME for DEPENDENT and NEGLECTED CHILDREN

MERRILL - LINCOLN HALL  #7

Merrill Hall was the first building constructed for the State Home, ground broke on August 31, 1903 and construction was completed in June of 1904.  Merrill Hall was a two story brick and frame school building with narrow stairways and a finished basement.  As time continued Merrill Hall changed names to Lincoln Hall, and by 1917 the building changed from being a school to that of a boys dormitory.  Unfortunately, the building was not designed to house up to 30 adolescent boys and their house parents.  Even after remodeling the interior  in 1952, it was officially stated that the building's "sleeping arrangements do not afford the privacy essential for healthy well -adjusted individuals."
