VIRTUAL TOUR of the COLORADO STATE HOME for DEPENDENT and NEGLECTED CHILDREN

BARN & FARM #19

When the property was originally purchased from Thomas M. Field's heirs there was already a horse barn, implement shed, hog house, calf sheds, and chicken houses available.    Animal husbandry, farming, milking cows, and gardening were some of the tasks the children were asked to do, not only to keep them busy, but as a tool to learn about responsibility and a work ethic.  While South Denver was fairly rustic when then it began at the Field House, by the early 1950's Denver was an urban center and the neighbors understandably asked the Home to phase out its farm activities.
