Colorado State Capitol Virtual Tour
This functional black granite monument is dedicated to the selfless dedication of Sadie M. Likens who assisted veterans from the Civil War, Spanish American War, and First World War. She was a leader of the Woman's Relief Corps, an auxiliary of the Grand Army of the Republic, and led a life dedicated to easing the suffering of others. During this memorial dedication on July 7, 1923 by the Veterans of the Grand Army of the Republic a veteran, C.M. Bills, was quoted as saying, "...Instead of breaking under the load, she gave her life that others might be relieved...She typifies American womanhood and the true heroines of the Civil War."
