Emily Griffith

Miss Griffith began her illustrious teaching career at age 14. She soon realized that the official curriculum ignored the needs of immigrants and disadvantaged students. In 1916 she opened her own school whose motto was " For All Those Who Wish To Learn." It became a world renowned trade and vocational school and within a year had over two thousand students. While Emily was tragically murdered in 1947, her legacy will exist far into the future.
