OWENS ANNOUNCES APPOINTEE TO WESTERN INTERSTATE
COMMISSION ON HIGHER EDUCATION

(DENVER) – Gov. Bill Owens today announced the appointment of William J. Hybl of Colorado Springs to the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education.

"This commission was established in order to create a more highly educated citizenry among our western states," said Owens. "William Hybl definitely embodies the goals that this agency strives to achieve."

Hybl currently serves as Chairman and CEO of the U.S. Olympic Foundation in addition to sitting as President of the Air Force Academy Foundation. He was also a member of the Colorado House of Representatives and the Education Committee from 1972-1973.

The commission is composed of three members each from thirteen western states. The commission studies the needs of professional and graduate educational facilities in this region, the resources for meeting such needs and the long-range effects of the commission's findings on higher education. Each state's commissioners submit a report to their Governor and General Assembly. Terms are four years. There are 39 total members with three being appointed by the Governor of Colorado.
