(DENVER) - Gov. Bill Owens today announced the appointment of 11 members to the State and Veterans Nursing Home Commission. The new commission, created by the passage of HB1336 in May, will evaluate the operations of the State and Veterans nursing homes located in Homelake, Florence, Trinidad, Rifle and Aurora.
"Colorado's veterans in State nursing homes gave their best in serving our country - and they deserve safe, healthy facilities when they need our care in their later years," said the Governor. "I am thankful for the willingness of these individuals to serve on this important commission," Owens said.
The commission will have the benefit of 12 recommendations submitted to the governor in June by the Fitzsimons State Veterans Nursing Home Accountability Committee that was led by Lt. Gov. Jane Norton. Among the committee's findings was the recommendation that the public- private operations model now in place at Fitzsimons be considered for implementation statewide to benefit residents at all of the state veterans nursing homes.
The new commission will determine the expertise and resources needed to effectively manage the state nursing homes, while providing high quality care to residents of the homes.
Members of the Commission were selected to ensure representation from several areas of expertise, including veterans' affairs and the operation of nursing home facilities.
The 11 are:
