OWENS APPOINTS JOEL H. FARKAS TO COLORADO COMMISSION ON HIGHER EDUCATION
(DENVER) - Gov. Bill Owens today announced the appointment of Joel H. Farkas of Denver to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.
"Higher education is vital for the future of so many young Coloradans, it is important that we preserve and continue to improve our facilities," said Owens. "Joel Farkas has an excellent record of service and commitment, and will serve the citizens of Colorado with the same dedication in this new role."
Joel Farkas founded Gateway American Resources, Pioneer Communities, and Orpheum Lofts, all real estate and water interest companies. Currently a board member of the Colorado State Bank and Trust, and a member of the State of Colorado's Task Force on Transportation, Farkas is also a real-estate developer for Gateway American Properties. He is involved in several charitable organizations, including serving on the boards of the National Jewish Medical and Research Center, the Lupus Foundation, and the Third Way Center. Farkas graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1983 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business and Economics.
The Colorado Commission on Higher Education sets policies for all state-supported institutions of higher education.
There are 11 members of the Commission, each of whom serve four-year terms. Senate confirmation is required.
