OWENS APPOINTS PRESLANO MONTOYA TO THE STATE BOARD FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGES AND OCCUPATIONAL EDUCATION

(DENVER) - Gov. Bill Owens today announced the appointment of Preslano Montoya of Greeley to the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education.

"Education remains the most important factor for a successful future, " said Owens. "Preslano Montoya has the knowledge and experience to serve the citizens of Colorado."

A native of Weld County, Preslano Montoya received a Bachelor's Degree in 1976 from the University of Northern Colorado. He has won several awards, including the Denver Post's Colorado's Future Hispanic Leader, as well as the Greeley/Evans School District's School Board Service Award. Currently a real estate broker, Montoya has served as the President of Sears Investment One since 1992.

The State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education is the governing body for the state community college system and the coordinating board for local district colleges. It also coordinates the activities of area vocational schools.

There are eleven members of the Board, nine of whom are appointed by the Governor. The length of term is four years, and Senate confirmation is required.
