OWENS APPOINTS SOBANET DIRECTOR OF
GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF STATE PLANNING AND BUDGETING

(DENVER) – Gov. Bill Owens today appointed Henry Sobanet as director of the Governor's Office of State Planning and Budgeting (OSPB).

"Colorado is fortunate to have Henry's expertise is this critical position," Owens said. "Henry is well suited to the demanding job of preparing and managing the state's budget. His experience and knowledge will be invaluable as we meet the state's fiscal challenges."

A Denver native, Sobanet obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a master's degree from the University of Colorado at Denver, both degrees in Economics. For five years, he served as an economist for the Colorado Legislative Council, the nonpartisan research office for the State Legislature.

Sobanet currently is the OSPB Deputy Director, a post he has held since 1999. His appointment is effective October 1. He succeeds Nancy McCallin who recently was chosen to be president of the Colorado's Community College System.

"I am honored that the Governor selected me to succeed someone of Nancy McCallin's caliber. This is a major responsibility and with the help of the great staff in OSPB, I am excited to take on the challenge," Sobanet said.

OSPB is responsible for developing the state budget for the Governor, providing revenue estimates and monitoring the implementation of the budget as enacted by the Legislature.
