(DENVER) – Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton, as Acting Governor, today announced the appointment of Carl S. McGuire III of Brush to the Washington County Court in the 13th Judicial District. McGuire is filling a vacancy resulting from the appointment of Judge Kevin Hoyer to District Court.
"Carl McGuire's broad legal experience, particularly during his time on active duty with the United States Navy Judge Advocate General Corps, will serve him well as he assumes the duties of County Court Judge," said Lt. Governor Norton. "I am confident that he will be a fair and efficient judge for the people of Washington County."
McGuire is currently a sole practitioner and a JAG officer in the Naval Reserve. He received his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University and his law degree from the University of Wyoming.
The appointment is effective January 1, 2005. The initial term of office for a county court judge is a provisional term of two years, after which the incumbent must stand for retention to serve an additional four years. The annual salary for this part-time position is $25,610.
