OWENS TO LEAD STATEWIDE MOMENT OF
SILENCE AT STATE CAPITOL ON APRIL 20TH

DENVER – Governor Bill Owens will lead a statewide moment of silence in remembrance of the victims of the Columbine High School tragedy on Thursday, April 20.. The ceremony is from 11:00 to 11:30 AM on the west steps of the State Capitol.

"As we approach the anniversary of this tragedy that greatly impacted the entire nation, I want to express my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and those injured at Columbine," said Gov. Owens. "It is my hope that we can all come together as Coloradans and pause for a moment of silence in remembrance of those who were slain."

Prior to the moment of silence at 11:21 AM, the time of the tragedy, Owens will make a few brief comments, followed by remarks from several local religious leaders.

On Thursday, April 20, the Governor has ordered the Colorado and United States flags be lowered to half-staff at 11:21 AM throughout Colorado and remain lowered for the rest of the day.

The ceremony is open to the public. Parking is limited. Off-street, metered parking is available on various streets surrounding the Capitol. Handicapped parking is limited on the Capitol grounds.
