OWENS APPOINTS EDWARD JUDE CASIAS AS COUNTY COURT JUDGE IN SUMMIT COUNTY
DENVER – Governor Bill Owens today appointed Edward Jude Casias of Dillon to serve as a county court judge in Summit County. Casias will replace the Hon. Jeffrey S. Ryan effective January 9, 2001.
"Ed is respected in the legal community as a person who is stern, yet fair," said Gov. Owens. "As a judge, he will continue to serve the citizens of Colorado with the same professionalism he has exhibited as a district attorney."
Ed Casias is assistant district attorney for the Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s Office where he prosecutes felony assaults, including sexual assualts on adults and children, and homicides and felony level drug cases. Prior to his current position, Casias served as chief deputy district attorney for the Fifth J.D. from 1998 to 1999 and as deputy district attorney for the Ninth J.D. from 1994 to 1998. Casias is a member of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association and is a volunteer firefighter for the Red, White, and Blue Fire Protection District.
The initial term of office for a county court judge is a provisional term of two years, after which the incumbent must stand for retention to serve an additional four years.
