GOVERNOR OWENS HOSTS ALL-COLORADO LUNCH AT THE CAPITOL

LAKEWOOD - At a press conference today, Governor Bill Owens proclaimed August as Colorado Proud month and encouraged people to buy local food and agricultural products.  The Governor, legislators and members of the press then enjoyed an all-Colorado lunch featuring everything from buffalo to key lime pie.

"The agricultural industry in Colorado is a very important part of the state’s economy," said Governor Owens.  "The Colorado Proud program helps to strengthen this industry by identifying locally-grown food and products for the consumer and retailers."

Courtesy of the ACF Culinarians of Colorado, four world-class chefs prepared the delicious buffalo, the juicy burgers, the fresh pasta and potato salads.  Participants included Bear Creek Bread, Big Mike’s BBQ Sauce, Boulder Beverage Company, Buffalo Groves, Colorado Hydroponics, Colorado Potato Administrative Committee Colorado Sweet Gold, Cottonwood Cellars, Eat This!, Eldorado Springs Water, Good Times Emporium, Grandma’s Pasta, Great Western Tortilla Company, Hot Head Carrots, Madhava Honey, Millennium Tree Committee, Mission Foods, Mountain Sun, Penelope’s of Evergreen, Robertson Fruit, Robinson Dairy, Stormy’s Quality Food Products, V Bar Beef and Volker’s Bakery.

Colorado Proud is a marketing program to make it easier for consumers, retailers and restaurants to identify and purchase Colorado products.  The Colorado Proud logo may be used to promote any food or agricultural item that has been grown, raised or processed in Colorado.  There is no cost to participate in the program, however, companies must verify their eligibility by filing a license agreement with the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

For more information on participating in the program, contact the Colorado Department of Agriculture Markets Division at 303-239-4114, or send email to  wendy.white@ag.state.co.us
