OWENS APPOINTS KRISTIE LEE FIRME
TO STATE SOIL CONSERVATION
BOARD
DENVER – Governor Owens recently appointed Kristie Lee Firme of Haxtun to the State Soil Conservation Board for a term expiring December 2002.
Kristie Firme is a farmer for family-owned and operated Firme Farms, Inc. She serves as the education chair of Colorado Cattle Women and received her associate’s degree from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling.
The Soil Conservation Board is responsible for coordinating programs, training, and organizing the eight state soil conservation districts and federal agencies; and allocating state funds, and serving as cosponsor of watershed and flood prevention projects. Only one out of the nine board members is appointed by the Governor with each serving a term of three years. Members do not need Senate confirmation. f
