OWENS APPOINTS RAY AGUILERA AND FRANA MACE TO CARING FOR COLORADO FOUNDATION
DENVER – Governor Bill Owens appointed Ray Anthony Aguilera of Pueblo and Rep. Frana L. Mace of Denver to the Caring for Colorado Foundation for terms expiring May 2003.
Ray Aguilera is a commissioner representing Colorado for the Education Commission of the States. He served as president and founder of the Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation and as a board member of the Latino Chamber of Commerce.
Representative Frana Mace serves in the Colorado House of Representatives for House District 4. Prior to her election to the House in 1995, Mace served on the Denver Board of Adjustment and Zoning Appeals. She has received numerous community service awards including Hispanic Woman of the Year.
The Caring for Colorado Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was formed in April 1998. As a result of the sale of Blue Cross and Blue Shield to Anthem in December 1999, the foundation received $155 million. Because Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado was a nonprofit organization that did not pay taxes, the surplus monies from its sale to Anthem went to Caring for Colorado to address Colorado health care needs.
