DENVER – Governor Bill Owens today in Grand Junction signed House Bill 1224 which creates the Colorado Tourism Office and House Bill 1069 dealing with remote weather systems for aircraft.
"Passage of this bill (H.B. 1069) will significantly improve the safety of Colorado skies. This bill could also help lead to improved commercial service across the state due to less delays for weather reasons," said Gov. Owens.
Owens also signed H.B. 1224 and said, "This bill (H.B. 1224) represents an important step in improving Colorado’s tourism economy. It will help us better market the most marketable state in the country."
H.B. 1224 repeals the Colorado Tourism Board and the Colorado Travel and Tourism Authority under the Department of Local Affairs, effective August 1, 2000. The bill creates the Colorado Tourism Office within the Governor’s Office and establishes a governing board to be appointed by the Governor, the Speaker of the House, and the President of the Senate.
