OWENS APPOINTS DONALD VAN PELT AS CHAIR OF STATE BOARD OF PAROLE AND TO COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS ADVISORY COUNCIL
DENVER - Gov. Bill Owens appointed Donald E. Van Pelt of Pueblo West as chair of the State Board of Parole and to the Community Corrections Advisory Council.
Donald Van Pelt is a consultant for Pharmchem Laboratories, Inc. of California. He served as project director for the Inmate Drug Reduction Program for the Colorado Department of Corrections from 1995 to 1999. Van Pelt worked as a manger of corporate and financial investigations for Blue Cross and Blue Shield from 1991 to 1995. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado.
The State Board of Parole holds hearings and considers applications for parole, and conducts all proceedings involving revocation of parole. The board consists of seven members who serve three-year terms and need Senate confirmation. The annual salary for this position is $75,690.
The Community Corrections Advisory Council advises and assists the Division of Criminal Justice by analyzing, identifying and recommending policy modifications for the community corrections program. The council consists of 18 members who serve at the pleasure of the Governor and do not need Senate confirmation.
