GOVERNOR OWENS APPOINTS THREE NEW MEMBERS TO STATE BOARD OF HUMAN SERVICES

DENVER  -  Governor Bill Owens announced the appointment of three new members to the State Board of Human Services for terms expiring March 1, 2003: Barbara J. Kirkmeyer of Brighton, Harold R. Klein, Jr., of La Junta, and Arthur W. Hogling of Evergreen.

"All three individuals bring a good deal of experience to the Board and will serve Coloradans well," said Gov. Owens.

Weld County Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer will serve in that capacity replacing Shirley Garner. Kirkmeyer is serving a second term as county commissioner and recently served on Governor Owens Transition Advisory Team for human services. Kirkmeyer is chair of the Colorado Works Allocation Committee and a member of the Child Welfare Allocations Committee.

Otero County Commissioner Harold Klein, Jr., will serve in that capacity replacing James E. Johnson, Jr. Klein is currently on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Counties representing Colorado. He is also a member of the Colorado Counties Health and Human Services Committee.

Arthur Hogling will serve as a public member replacing Cameron Jane Learned. Hogling is executive director and chief executive officer of the Developmental Disabilities Resource Center, as well as president of the Colorado Association of Non Profit Boards. He served on Governor Owens Transition Advisory Team for human services and as state president for the American Association on Mental Retardation.

John L. Klomp of Pueblo and Youlon D. Savage of Denver have been reappointed to the board by Governor Owens. Klomp will serve as a County Commissioner representative and Savage as a public member.

The State Board of Human Services adopts policies, rules and regulations for the administration of the Department of Human Services. It also sets standards for service and personnel, formulates a departmental salary schedule and submits an annual report to the Governor and the Legislature detailing the activities and finances of the Department.
