PRESIDENT APPROVES OWENS DISASTER REQUEST
Colorado's Flooded Areas Eligible for Federal Disaster Aid

DENVER  -  President Bill Clinton today approved a request by Governor Bill Owens for federal disaster funds to assist communities affected by recent flooding.

"I deeply appreciate the President's disaster declaration today for Colorado," Owens said. "People across Colorado had their homes and property destroyed and federal assistance will greatly assist those hardest hit by the flooding."

Owens asked the President in a letter on May 11 to declare Colorado a major disaster area due to widespread flooding in late April. Owens toured flood ravaged North La Junta and met with Otero County officials this past Friday, May 14.
