DENVER - Governor Bill Owens declared a disaster emergency today for certain areas of Colorado due to widespread flooding after Governor's staffers surveyed the areas on Monday affected by mass flooding.
"There is substantial damage to public and private properties across the state," said Owens. "I have instituted a disaster emergency to protect public health, ensure public safety and welfare, and render relief for those most severely impacted by the flooding."
The Governor's Executive Order declaring a disaster emergency calls for activation of the Colorado National Guard, which may be needed during this time to assist with relief efforts, and possible expenditure of funds from the State Disaster Emergency Fund to assist with emergency needs. The Colorado Office of Emergency Management is authorized to coordinate application to the federal government for funding related to the declared disaster emergency.
