DENVER - Governor Bill Owens today announced the appointment of two members to the State Board of Agriculture: Donald A. Hamstra of Brighton and Jeff Shoemaker of Denver.
"Both individuals are active in their communities and bring those experiences to their role on the board," said Gov. Owens. "They will serve Colorado's university system well in their new capacity."
Donald Hamstra is a health care administrator with the Brighton Medical Group and is chairman of the Brighton Chamber of Commerce. Hamstra served as mayor of Brighton from 1990 to 1995 and was formerly senior vice president of the Platte Valley Medical Center.
Jeff Shoemaker is the executive director of the Greenway Foundation, a private non-profit organization responsible for recreational and environmental improvements along various waterways in the Denver-metro area. He is vice chairman of the Foundation for Colorado State Parks and formerly served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1986 to 1992.
The State Board of Agriculture is the governing board for Colorado State University, the University of Southern Colorado and Fort Lewis College. The board selects the presidents of these schools and generally oversees the schools, including determination of salaries and tuition, conferring degrees and carrying out other legal functions.
