OWENS OFFERS CONDOLENCES TO VICTIMS OF FORT WORTH CHURCH SHOOTING

DENVER - Governor Bill Owens today offered his condolences and sympathy on behalf of Colorado to the people of Fort Worth, Texas in light of Wednesday night's shooting at Wedgwood Baptist Church.

"Coloradans are all too familiar with this kind of random, senseless violence. I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and any support we can give to the families of the victims, and to all the people of Texas during this difficult time," said Governor Owens. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and the citizens of Texas."

Governor Owens talked this morning with Fort Worth Mayor Kenneth Barr and offered Colorado's condolences and sympathy in person during that phone conversation. The Governor's staff has been working with both Fort Worth city staff and the office of Governor George Bush in advising them on a number of aspects regarding this tragedy.

Governor Owens grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and his mother lives just a few miles from the scene of the killings.
