Executive Orders from the Administration of Governor Bill Owens 1999-2005

DENVER  -  Governor Bill Owens today at a news conference named a team of experts to advise him on whether he should appoint a special prosecutor in the JonBenet Ramsey murder case. The team plans to meet with Ramsey prosecutors, investigators and others and advise the Governor on a possible special prosecutor appointment.

The members of the Governor's Special Prosecutor Advisory Team are:

• Anthony Vollack, former Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court and a former prosecutor and State district court judge.

   

• Colorado Attorney General Ken Salazar.

   

• Troy Eid, Owens' Chief Legal Counsel.

   

• Jeanne Smith, District Attorney for El Paso and Teller Counties and the immediate past President of the Colorado District Attorneys Council.

   

• District Attorney Stuart VanMeveren of Fort Collins, who currently serves as President of the National District Attorney's Association.

   

• Pueblo District Attorney Gus Sandstrom.

   

• Don Quick, Deputy Colorado Attorney General for Criminal Justice and a former Adams County prosecutor

"I'm pleased that this distinguished team of legal experts will advise me on a possible special prosecutor appointment," Owens said. "Justice demands that we evaluate every legal option that might help us determine who murdered JonBenet Ramsey. This advisory team will help me decide if appointing a special prosecutor will further the interests of justice in this case."

Members of the Governor's Special Prosecutor Advisory Team will be designated as Special Assistant Attorneys General to ensure the confidentiality of their deliberations and recommendations.
