Arapahoe County (Includes City of Denver) Marriages
1861 - 1868 By Jay Trask, Staff Archivist The collection consists of unbound handwritten marriage certificates from Arapahoe County during Colorado's Territorial period. The certificates generally contain the names of the bride and groom, their residence, name of the officiator/minister, names of witnesses, certificate number and the date of marriage. In order to help preserve the records and facilitate public access, the certificates have been digitized. Since the documents range in size and quality, some of the images have been enhanced to increase legibility. The alterations consist of adjusting the contrast, the size, the exposure and discarding all color information. To view a digital record, simply click on the bride or groom's name. Every effort has been made to transcribe the correct spelling of the names and dates. However, you may want to check names that are similar or close to the name listed. Some documents were transcribed at an unknown time. The index is not an exhaustive list of early Arapahoe County marriages. The recording of marriages in Colorado with the county Clerk and Recorder was not required until 1881. Many people still registered with the Clerk's Office, and microfilmed copies of some of these early books are located in the State Archives. For a more complete listing, please contact us.
