Colorado Employment Verification Law The Colorado Employment Verification law applies to all public & private employers in Colorado, and is in addition to separate federal I-9 requirements. Employers must comply with the provisions of the law for employees hired on and after January 1, 2007. There are 2 main components: (1) an affirmation requirement, and (2) a requirement to make & retain copies of employee identity and employment eligibility documentation.Effective January 1, 2007, the Colorado employment verification law, 8-2-122, C.R.S. (HB06S-1017) requires private and public employers to retain an affirmation and copies of an employee’s identity documents for employment eligibility purposes.
