FIRST LADY JEANNIE RITTER PRAISES 2009 GOVERNOR'S SERVICE AWARD WINNERS

First Lady Jeannie Ritter helped honor AmeriCorps and other volunteer efforts today at the 2009 Governor's Service Awards ceremony. Eleven recipients were honored for their outstanding contributions to community service work throughout Colorado. The awards were given by the Governor's Commission on Community Service (GCCS), and the eleven recipients were selected from 80 nominations.

"It is heart-warming to see organizations and individuals give so much of their time to the people of Colorado," said First Lady Jeannie Ritter. "This is especially poignant in challenging economic times. The work of individual volunteers and organizations like AmeriCorps make such a difference in so many lives."

Kaiser Permanente was honored as the Outstanding Business for its employee volunteer programs.

"Kaiser Permanente is proud to support projects that improve public health and we are fortunate to do this in collaboration with so many dedicated community partners," said Donna Lynne, DrPH, and president of Kaiser Permanente Colorado. "In the spirit of collaboration, our award honors all of Kaiser Permanente's fellow nonprofits and other community leaders, who joined us on our journey to make Colorado a healthier place to work, live and play."

Governor Bill Ritter proclaimed the week of May 10-16, 2007 as AmeriCorps Week in Colorado, spotlighting the vital work done by AmeriCorps members in communities across the state since the national service program began 15 years ago.
