FIRST LADY JEANNIE RITTER HOSTS FEBRUARY INSTALLMENT OF "SECOND MONDAY SERIES" AT THE GOVERNOR'S RESIDENCE
On Monday, February 9, 2009, First Lady Jeannie Ritter hosted the February installment of the on-going "Second Monday" Lecture Series at the Governor's Residence at the Boettcher Mansion. In honor of Black History Month, the segment focused on the African American presence and culture in the west, and featured a lecture on black cowboys by Black America West Museum executive director LaWanna Larson and a musical performance by Country Music Hall of Fame's Rudy Grant.
"Colorado has such a rich and diverse history," said First Lady Jeannie Ritter. "It's an honor to provide a forum like this series to help showcase some of those untold stories, and at the same time open this beautiful facility to new visitors who might not have normally visited here."
During the event, attendees were able to tour The Residence, view a photographic exhibit from the Black America West Museum, and explore some of the unique and permanent items in The Residence.
The Second Monday series is a historical & cultural series presented by the Governor's Residence Preservation Fund (GRP Fund) and the Colorado Historical Society. The GRP Fund was founded by Colorado First Lady Jeannie Ritter to provide a foundation for the support, preservation, and awareness of the Governor's Residence, which she now calls "Colorado's Home." The fund is hosting a year long Centennial Celebration in observance of the Mansion's 100th Anniversary.
