LT. GOV. O'BRIEN APPOINTS TWO SENIOR STAFFERS

Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien has named Bruce Atchison as chief-of-staff and Tim Markham as deputy chief of staff.

Atchison has worked on behalf of children for more than 26 years and was most recently the executive vice president of the Colorado Children's Campaign. O'Brien served as president of the Children's Campaign for 15 years. She left that post in February 2006 to campaign for lieutenant governor.

"Bruce and I have worked together for many years advancing an agenda to improve the lives of Colorado's children," O'Brien said. "I'm thrilled that he will be joining me here in the Lt. Governor's Office where we can continue to work on issues critical to the well-being of children."

Prior to the Children's Campaign, Atchison worked in former Gov. Roy Romer's policy office, serving as Head Start collaboration director and working on children and family issues. Atchison earned his bachelor's degree in 1976 from Arizona State University and did his master's work in early childhood special education in 1984 from the University of Denver.

Markham recently served as director of government relations and as a lobbyist for the Colorado Ambulatory Surgery Center Association. Prior to that, he completed two legal clerkships at Palmer, Goertzel & Associates and the U.S. Department of Labor Solicitors Office. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science in 2002 from Missouri State University and his law degree in 2005 from the University of Denver College of Law.

"Tim's knowledge of health-care issues, his wide network of colleagues in the public policy arena, and his experience at the Capitol make him a strong member of our team," O'Brien said.
